It was greatly remodelled (given a new façade and windows) in the 18th century (dated 1786), which gives the building its present appearance. It was then enlarged in the same style in the 19th century (dated 1874). The façades of the building – constructed from granite blocks – are pierced by 20 windows on the south façade and 15 on the north, which gives the interior spaces great luminosity. The whole elevation is very sober and typical of this late classical period. The broad pilasters (four) are merely suggested in an articulation of stone blocks, combined with a restrained cornice at roof level, plain bays below each window, but with sinuous window sills on the upper storeys suggestive of en earlier Louis XV style. However, the large number of openings relieve the elevations of any heaviness, and the wrought-iron balustrades with their organic plant-like elements (presumably 19th century) add a lighter detail. Unexpected, given the overall style, are the carved keystones above the windows and doors. The building is considered by the Architecte des Bâtiments de France to be of architectural significance, and one of the most important in the town. South-facing, the property is located at the bottom of a courtyard garden, and separated from the street by heavy period wrought-iron railings and gates; one for vehicules, two for pedestrians. The building provides accommodation over three principal floors of approximately 130m² each, and is raised on a semi-basement (once the garden level), with a five-metre high attic above, both of which could be converted into additional living space. Many period elements remain; carved stone lintels above the windows and doors, parquet floors, marble chimney pieces, wooden panelling, plaster cornicing and ceiling roses, exterior woodwork (windows, doors and shutters), elements in wrought iron. Of particular interest is a wrought-iron balustrade which runs along the whole of the façade at the second-storey level, which includes two shields that once carried coats of arms surmounted by the coronet of a marquis. In the courtyard garden, there is a stone basin – carved from a single block of stone – with its original lead waterpump. The façade to the north opens on to a narrow pedestrian street lined with 17th-century buildings, overlooks a quiet public square and, beyond, the terraced gardens that are typical of the town.
